This semester Fall Gathering was hosted by Beta Zeta in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Myself, Matthew Turner, Tyler Dickenson, Jeremy Heeren, and Justin Good all made the trek down, and here are some of the highlights
We left on a Friday, and like most good road trips, wanted to have some god food. We stopped at Fudrucker’s, and what did they have on the menu? 1 lb burgers. So of course that’s what some of us had to have. That was just past St. Louis, and as we continued through Missouri we got to know some of the cars we were traveling near. There was a particular Cadillac with the license plate “Ed Boss.” Naturally we figured that this vehicle would own the road, and we assumed correctly. Any vehicle that attempted to speed by Ed Boss was promptly denied. Also, we noticed that in Missouri, not all the cars had license plates. Interesting…
We also resolved to purchase knives while we were in Oklahoma. Why? Because we have to bring something back with us, and what better then pocket knives. As we make our way into Oklahoma at about 11 pm or so, there was a smoke that had settled on the road. It certainly made the drive more eerie. Ad that to our talk about how we feared a zombie attack, and the big curves in the road got much more interesting. We arrived at our destination at about 2:30 am. We felt that was appropriate giving the nocturnal habits of many in our brotherhood.
Saturday after breakfast we commenced with the planned festivities. It was Northeastern Oklahoma State’s homecoming weekend, and we went downtown to watch the parade. They have a very scenic campus, and as we were walking by a river we was something shiny and round in the water. Despite the weather being a little chilly, I decided to go after the coin in the river. Upon many attempts, I retrieved this supposed coin, only to discover that it was no coin, but a pop can tab. (For those of you who were not there, I prefer to remember this river as raging. (Others may contend that it was merely a scenic stream.) Later on that day, we went to the tailgate for the homecoming football game. While throwing a football around at the tailgate, Jeremy busted the Epsilon President’s glasses, and Matthew broke his finger going after a low throw. It’s not football without injuries! The Beta Zeta chapter also had a sweet set of wood letters, and we took pictures with those. Then we went to the game.
After the game, we all relaxed at our base camp. There is a Christian center that Beta Zeta reserved, and it was nice having all the brothers together there. There were had our National Meeting (check the STE message Boards!), ate , and had a devo and worship time. After that was more free time, so while some watched the FC fight, pothers played poker (and I believe that a Beta Epsilon brother won!) Jeremy and I, guided by the (host chapter sweetheart) explored the Northeastern State University campus.
The next day, it was time to head home. The river, mentioned earlier, had a cool path through it that we saw cars drive through. So we had to take Goodie’s SUV through the river. I am sure that there is a video somewhere of us doing that. Then we took the 15 hour trip back to Bradley.
In Christ,
Matt Russ
